Formby and Freshfield Beach Litter Angels clean up our beach

Formby & Freshfield Beach Litter Angels descended on Freshfield Beach on Tuesday , for the first of many Beach clean events being held this year..

The events are ran by Tracy, Amber & Carla, who formed the group last July....and they were overwhelmed by the strength of the community in joining them...

They had 35 lovely volunteers helping them on the night, on the beach and dunes at Freshfield...

Whilst not masses of litter, due to regulars who pick up whilst dog walking, and other people who visit the beaches and collect rubbish daily, they still managed a decent haul... Lots of big pieces of metal, broken glass, bottles and cans...amongst other random items such underwear, and a bobble hat...

They also found two crisp packets from the 70's... one saying you could win a Donny Osmond, David Cassidy or Steve McQueen picture.. this was dated 1973...!!

The community support is fantastic...However it really is the calm before the storm for litter. Once the visitor season descends, it is so sad that certain people always leave their litter and rubbish behind, with no care for the environment or where it ends up...

Why do they spoil what they come to enjoy.....?

Their next event is Tuesday 23rd April 7pm until 8pm..at Freshfield beach, if you feel like joining them to blow the cobwebs away and meet some lovely people.. You could even have a go at nurdling and sieving for microplastics with Amber if you fancy !

They provide all the equipment, just bring gloves, and a warm coat!

Squirrel coffee will also give you 20% off a tea or coffee when attending their event nights, and will stay open until 6.45pm ..just say ' beach litter angels'..

Please join their facebook group at 'Formby & Freshfield beach litter Angels' for all their events throughout the spring and summer. Their aim is to run one event every 7 to 10 days in the busy months.
