National Trust in Formby are not accepting Christmas Trees this year
Unfortunately the National Trust in Formby are no longer accepting your old Christmas trees. Since 2009 National Trust Formby have asked for your old Christmas trees in Formby so they could plant them in the dunes. They used them as a windbreak to capture sand, and build up dune height. This allowed the marram grass to take hold, and fix things together.
A spokesperson from National Trust said: "Because of your Christmas Trees, the change has been spectacular; when we look back we see open sheets of bare sand, now we see a thriving mosaic of grass, full of energy and life."
"Over the past five years we have needed less and less Christmas trees. As the grass took hold, natural processes took over and our interference wasn’t helpful anymore. So now we are asking you to take your unwanted Christmas trees to your local tip. The trees will be composted down and recycled, helping our natural environment."
