Formby School boy Connor crowned 2018 Bambino Karting champion
Back in January we reported on local school boy Connor Scarisbrick (from Trinity St Peters – aged 7, 8 at the end of the month) who raced in the Dubai OPlate. He finished a very respectable 4th place against international drivers.
Since then he has featured on Sky TV/Motors TV and thoroughly enjoyed being interviewed. Connor has been karting since he was 5 and reaches speeds of up to 50mph (obviously wearing the very best protective equipment). He has competed in 2 championships this year, the regional Hooton Park championships and the British Bambino championships. Last Sunday (9th Sept) with 2 rounds left to spare Connor was crowned the 2018 Bambino champion of the Hooton Park series after securing maximum points available and being the only unbeaten driver across all classes’ right up to seniors.
On Sunday 16th September Connor made a last minute entry into the prestigious Cumbria Oplate and he managed to secure victory in both heats and the final. His parents couldn’t be prouder of how hard Connor works and his dedication. There are still 2 rounds left of the British championships where Connor is currently sitting in 2nd place. Connor has competed at tracks in England/ Northern Ireland/Scotland and Wales and has shown fantastic consistency and exceeded all expectations.
Karting is an expensive sport and with many competitors using professional engine builders, mechanics and driver coachers. Everyone has been amazed at Connors achievements without any of these additional benefits. Connors dad Paul doubles up as his mechanic and they have not been disappointed. After these last few more races in the bambino class Connor will then take the next step into cadets as a privateer (team membership can be tens of thousands of pounds!) which covers drivers between the ages of 8 – 13, he has been practicing already in his cadet and has shown great promise mixing with the older and more experienced children.
Everyone is looking forward to this next stage which will continue to see the family travelling to various tracks. If any local businesses would like to sponsor Connor and in return will benefit from a range of advertising – we would be grateful if they can contact Paul on 07841917453. The family would like to thank “Liberty contracts of Southport” for their support.
