Village Vets dog show a hugh success for seventh year running
Village Vets recorded another great charity success with their Annual Charity Fun Dog Show on 1st September this year. The show, on the grounds of the practice in Brows Lane, Formby, attracted many locals and their furry friends as well as some holidaymakers who now add the event to their calendar. West Lancs Dog Display Team put on a great display to kick off proceedings, including their famous fire jumps! Dog classes this year included Waggiest Tail, Best Rescue, Best Young Handle and Best Look-a-Like among others. Best In Show went to Flo, the Italian Spinone, a stuuning dog with a personality to match.
Local musicians provided music throughout the afternoon, there were teas, coffees and various cakes (at the now famous cake stall!) and ice creams to enjoy while sitting in the sunshine watching events unfold. There were a number of stalls and local organistaions in attendance including Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Mersey Police, who brought along a couple of their fantastic police dogs and some uniform for children (and adults!) to look at and try on. Tombolas, raffles, plate-smashing and other games added to the fun! Practice Principal, vet Kate Higgins “The whole team here put in a lot of work in the run up to the event but it’s well rewarded when we see everyone enjoying themselves whilst raising money for such worthy causes. It’s always nice to see something bringing the local community together and we’re proud to be doing that here on a yearly basis.
This year was also our most successful yet, raising £1300 on the day for our two charities will be match-funded by our banks”. She added, “Although the team work hard on this, the day would not be a success without the support of our many loyal clients as well as the donations for our stalls, show prizes and raffle from local businesses and clients, so a big, big ‘Thank You’ goes out to everyone who helped” The charities benefitting this year were Pets as Therapy and StreetVet. Pets As Therapy provide therapeutic visits to hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes, special needs schools and a variety of other venues all across the UK through their network of volunteers and behaviourally assessed animals. StreetVet is a relatively new organisation providing free of charge veterinary care to pets of homeless people in several cities in the UK. The event is now a regular occurrence on the Formby calendar for late summer, so put a date in your diary for 31 st August 2019!
