Formby Squirrels Rotary Club presented a cheque for a £1000 to the Sefton Cancer Support Group to help them in their work providing support to Cancer sufferers and their carers when the cancer sufferer is discharged from hospital. The Sefton Cancer Support Group is staffed by volunteers and is funded substantially from donations supporting people from Formby and Sefton. The Formby Squirrels Rotary Club are the newest Rotary Club in Formby with a mixed membership. We meet monthly on the second Thursday of the month in the community rooms at the Formby fire station and on the fourth Thursday of the month we have a social meeting details of which can be obtained from our web site. We undertake a range of fundraising activities such as wine tastings, Ceilidhs, hosting coffee and bacon sandwiches at the Holy Trinity workshop and bag packs. Last year July 2017 to July 2018 they raised funds for the four charities they were supporting, specifically for Sefton Cancer Support Group, Riding for the Disabled, Formby Carers Group and the Southport Life Boat. The club also raises funds for other good causes such as planting trees at the respite pods at Altcar Army camp, providing drivers to the Luncheon club to take their members out for an evening and supporting the Rotary charity seeking to eliminate polio from the world by raising funds and providing purple crocuses for planting at primary schools with presentation to the pupils about the importance of eliminating the disease. The next main event for the Formby Squirrels is their annual Wine tasting at the Formby CVS rooms on Friday 29th June although ticket numbers are limited due to demand. Enquiries about the Wine tasting or joining the Squirrels can by made via their e mail address of rotaryformbysquirrels@gmail.com Photograph shows Dave Bosworth, Angela Bramhall & Rosalind Foreman presenting a cheque for £1,000 to Sefton Cancer Support Group based in Duke Street, Formby.
