The Good Catch Win National Award
The Good Catch has today (25 January) been crowned the UK’s best fish and chip business with multiple sites, as part of the 30th anniversary National Fish & Chip Awards, organised by Seafish.
The business, with six establishments across Merseyside, Manchester, Cheshire and Liverpool, scooped the Best Multiple Fish and Chip Operator Award, during a prestigious awards ceremony, which is widely considered as the ‘Oscars’ of the fish and chip world, at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.
Open to businesses that operate three or more establishments, this award category assesses shops against a wide variety of judging criteria, including responsible sourcing policies, outlet appearance and facilities, menu development and innovation, supplier relationships, marketing and promotional activity and staff development and training. Award judges also made unannounced visits to shop premises to undertake further assessment of business practices in addition to assessing both the quality of the fish and chips on offer and levels of customer service provided.
Commenting on their award win after receiving the distinguished trophy from awards host, Nigel Barden, voice of food and drink on BBC Radio 2, Chris Pittaras, owner of The Good Catch, said: “We operate a family run business and our heritage is firmly embedded in the industry, with our grandfather and father owning and operating their own fish and chip businesses as well. The competition was conducted by Seafish, the seafood authority that champions sustainability. Other officials included NFFF, MSC and various sponsors including V.A. Whitley, Drywite Limited and JJ Food Service.
The Good Catch is a Multi Award Winning group of Top Quality Traditional Fish and Chip Shops. With branches in Liverpool St Johns, Crosby, Freshfield, Litherland, Urmston and Hale in Manchester. We are due to open our 7th Shop in Great Homer Street Market.
A family run business, their Father’s first shop was in 1979 in Toxteth. Brothers Christopher Pittaras, Robert Pittaras and Sisters Alison Mattravers and Michelle Fairclough are now at the rains. Their Father Kipros Pittaras and their Grandfather Christos Pittaras passed on their knowledge and expertise.
