MP acts on Formby parking issue

Sefton Central MP Bill Esterson and Formby Labour candidate Nina Killen have intervened to help solve a long-running parking problem caused by workers parking on residential streets.

Mrs Killen spoke to bosses at Acorn Insurance on Liverpool Road to ask what was being done to ease the pressure on surrounding streets caused by staff parking during the working day.

MP Mr Esterson wrote to the company to ask what it was doing to try to solve the problem which have included staff double parking and blocking driveways, making it impossible for some residents to get on and off their driveways.

Mr Esterson also wrote to residents on Altcar Lane, Marina Road, Alt Road and Monks Drive to outline the action he had taken.

Mr Esterson wrote in his letter to Acorn: “Many of my constituents who live nearby have reported to my office instances of obstruction of driveways, double parking and parking too near to junctions and dropped kerbs. I would respectfully ask that you consider finding an alternative site where your staff can park away from residential streets as your current car park is not large enough to accommodate all of your staff. Can I also ask that you remind your staff of their obligations to local residents with regards to ensuring residents can access and exit their own driveways and can navigate junctions safely.”

He advised residents to contact his office if problems continue.

Labour candidate for the May 2018 elections, Nina Killen, said: “It is incredibly frustrating for residents to deal with this day after day. Residents have told me that they cannot get vehicles and caravans on and off their driveways at times and that is unacceptable.

“I have spoken with Acorn and they are well aware of the issues and it seems they do work hard to try to encourage staff to park considerately and they tell me they are looking for alternative parking sites in Formby that their staff can use.”
