Formby couple visit their MP in Parliament
A Formby couple saw democracy in action on a visit to Parliament to meet their MP.
Derek and Jane King, of Liverpool Road in Formby, made the trip for Jane’s 70th birthday.
They enjoyed a tour of the House of Commons and then watched Sefton Central MP Bill Esterson, who is also Shadow Business and International Trade Minister, ask a question to Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Minister Margot James about Royal Bank of Scotland’s treatment of small businesses.
Mr Esterson said: "It was a great pleasure to welcome Jane and Derek to Parliament. It is an enormous privilege to serve the people of Formby, Maghull, Crosby and Aintree in Parliament and so I am always really pleased when constituents are able to join me.
“Jane was celebrating a special birthday and I am also glad that they were able to see their MP ask a question from the public gallery.
“Parliament really is an amazing place. It is a part of our country's heritage and hundreds of thousands of people visit every year. The architecture is very special and the history is very obvious to all visitors.
“I would encourage anyone from Sefton Central to try to visit if you can. Jane and Derek spent a few days in London and parliament was a part of their visit. Often schools come just for the day. And whether you come for a few hours or for longer, please let my office know and they willtry to arrange a tour or some time in the public gallery watching proceedings.
“Finally, I hope that Jane and Derek enjoyed their visit, I hope to see many more people from the constituency in parliament and happy birthday to Jane!" Anyone wishing to arrange a tour or a visit to the public gallery can call Bill Esterson MP's office on 0151 531 8433 or email billestersonmp@gmail.com
