The Christmas Tree has arrived in Formby village last night ready for the Christmas Lights Switch-on
The Christmas Tree has arrived in Formby village at 2am this morning, Monday 13th November. Workmen erected the traditional Christmas tree, to the applause of three locals watching it be delivered and put in place.
The tree stands at around 25ft on Chapel Lane and is in place ahead of the Formby Christmas lights switch on which takes place on Sunday 26th November.
Thanks to Colin O'Loughlin for theses two great photos taken at 2am
Formby will see the return of our beloved Frosty the Snowman this year at the Formby Christmas Lights Switch on which takes place on Sunday 26 November.
The famous radio comedy duo Billy Butler and Wally Scott will be switching on the lights and will be on site all day along with Sandgrounder Radio and usual brilliant host Neil Newton.
Frosty will be at the other end of the village this year outside Formby Pool. He will be joined by lots of bigger fairground rides which are being provided by Southport Pleasureland's Norman Wallis.
There will be Christmas market stalls, children's fairground rides and entertainment from 1pm culminating in the lights being switched on at 5pm. Festivities will continue on through 'till 7pm and later in the local bars.
This year the rides and other entertainment will extend out to the front of Formby Pool. Road closures will be in place on Brows Lane, Rosemary Lane jnc. Brows Lane, Elbow Lane jnc. Chapel Lane and at the Chapel Lane roundabout.
The event is FREE ENTRY as always. the Formby Christmas Lights Appeal committee, headed by Cllr Denise Dutton, are currently fund raising and thankful to all the local traders, local organisations and private donations for helping us keep Formby Village twinkling throughout the festive period.
Special thanks also to Sovini for again offering to provide the tree and to Paul Lally 'The Christmas Decorator' and local resident for installing and decorating the tree free of charge.
