Sefton Central MP backs work of the RSPCA
Bill Esterson MP met with RSPCA inspectors to thank them for the great work they do protecting animals from cruelty.
The MP for Sefton Central said: “I’m proud to support the RSPCA and the work that their inspectors do to protect animals on the ground in Sefton Central. It was fantastic to meet some of their hardworking inspectors and to thank them on behalf of the animal lovers in our area for all that they do.”
The RSPCA is the leading organisation on animal welfare in England and Wales, and in 2016 it received over 1.1 million calls and investigated 160,000 complaints of animal cruelty. The organisation is campaigning to raise awareness of the risk that Britain’s exit from the European Union could pose to the protection of animals as around 80 per cent of the UK’s animal welfare laws originate from the EU.
Mr Esterson, whose family adopted a rescue dog recently from the Dogs Trust, added: “I know how important animal welfare issues are to my constituents. I am looking forward to working with the RSPCA to ensure that animal welfare is also a key part of the Brexit debate and that the protection of the idea that animals are sentient beings continues to be enshrined in UK law after we leave the EU.”
