GCSE Science London Trip – September 2017

After a long journey on the coach from our school to London, including a brief service station stop, we arrived at the Forensic Outreach workshop at Birbeck College. There we learnt about real life criminal cases and the techniques that the investigators use, we also had the opportunity to try them out for ourselves. Our meal that night was at Planet Hollywood, where everyone enjoyed the delicious food and music.

Our second day began with a full English breakfast, and then we travelled to ‘The Crystal’, an exhibition about sustainability and the changing world. Next we went to the L’Oreal Young Scientist Centre at the Royal Institute, where we did a ‘High Velocity Eggsporter’ workshop. We had to construct a vehicle out of limited resources that would protect an egg as it crashed a high speeds. Our group managed to win, and our prize was a free young scientist cup! We then went to ‘Ripley’s Believe It or Not!’ which was a very interesting and fun experience. By the time we got back to the hotel it was late and we were all looking forward to a good night’s sleep!

The next morning we loaded our suitcases back onto the coach and headed to the Natural History Museum, where everyone found all the exhibits very interesting and informative. Our last activity was a ‘Science Magic Show’ where we learnt about superpowers and the science behind them. After that we got back onto the coach and drove back to school. After a packed weekend we were glad to get back home for a rest!

Overall our trip to London was extremely interesting, and everyone loved it! We are all very thankful to Ms Nibhan for organising it.
