Formby school mentioned in American ABC news

Over the past few weeks, Years 3 and 4 pupils at Trinity St Peter’s CE Primary School in Formby have been learning about climate change. As part of their English lessons, they chose to write newspaper reports about Hurricane Irma and the impact it has had on Florida in particular. They had watched news reports online and read articles from other newspaper publications, however the most exciting aspect of their research arrived in the form of a video message from ABC News reporter, Annie Hubbell!

The children were fortunate enough to create a link with Annie, who has been reporting on Hurricane Irma from Fort Myers in Florida. Pupils had sent their newspaper reports over to Annie and amazed to receive a response! She recorded a very special message from the ABC studio, praising individual children for their newspaper reports and providing them with details and footage on the work she has been carrying out in Florida itself. Year 4 teachers, Mr King and Mr Killa, commented, “We always want to make the children’s learning purposeful and interactive whenever possible. We were blown away by the effort Miss Hubbell put into her report. It is a fantastic global link to have in the Formby community and has provided the children with a lasting memory!”

Annie’s message came through to the children on Monday morning. They were so excited to receive recognition for their work and further information about Hurricane Irma. Year 4 pupil Harry stated, “it was amazing to see the video! We were so lucky to be shown around her news station and to see what she does on a daily basis!” Year 3 pupil Lottie also noted, “I thought it was brilliant to look at where she worked and can’t believe that we were able to receive such an amazing message from America – we are so lucky!”

There is a definite buzz around Trinity St Peter’s school this week and the Year 3 and 4 teachers and pupils are very excited to see where they can take their learning next. Year 3 teacher Miss Morris concluded, “We can’t thank Miss Hubbel enough for taking our learning to the next level!”
