Formby Junior Sports Club’s new season started again last Saturday morning.

FRANK'S REPORT - 04/09/2017 4 Sep, 2017

Formby Junior Sports Club’s new season started again last Saturday morning.

With five pitches unfit to use, it was not ideal after months of planning and preparation for the big day. However, what could have been a disaster turned out to be one of the best ever starts to an Inter Club season.

Everyone quickly adjusted to the change of shared pitches and the goals were quickly erected, even on the longer distance pitches. No one complained and the expression “all hands to the pump ” worked really well so everyone can give themselves a well-deserved pat on the back.

Twenty matches were played during the morning on the four pitches fit for use. Two hundred and ten children attended despite it still being summer holiday time. There were seventy-seven different goal scorers who amassed between them a total of one hundred and seventy-two goals. Not bad for a first week! One hundred and twenty-four boys played between nine and eleven o’clock and then Deansgate was invaded by eighty-six girl footballers between eleven and twelve noon.

It was a busy but a most enjoyable first morning of the season. There were many new members playing football at FJSC for the first time and it is hoped that next Saturday more children will rejoin the club and more new members will also come along too.

A large number of children of all different ages have moved into Formby recently and have asked about joining FJSC. Many of those children attended last Saturday, made a great start and are already making a host of new friends.

All matches played last Saturday were friendly matches and next Saturday it will be friendlies again. The aim is that on the third Saturday (September 16th) children will be placed into Inter Club teams with team names. There will be divisions for all the following age groups:-

BOYS

Year 2/3 Boys - four teams

Year 4 Boys -four teams

Year 5/6 Boys - six teams

Year 7/8 Boys – four or possibly six teams teams

The boys’ divisions will be called:-

Year 2/3 Boys –Boys’ Super League Division 4 or BSL Div 4.

Year 4 Boys – Boys’ Super League Division 3 or BSL Div 3.

Year 5/6 Boys –Boys’ Super League Division 2 or BSL Div 2.

Year 7/8 Boys -Boys’ Super League Division 1 or BSL Div 1.

GIRLS

Year 3/4 Girls – four teams

Year 5/6 Girls – four teams

Year 7/8 Girls – four teams

Year 9/10 Girls – two teams

The girls’ divisions will be named:-

Year 3/4 Girls – Girls’ Super League Division 4 or GSL Div 4.

Year 5/6 Girls – Girls’ Super League Division 3 or GSL Div 3.

Year 7/8 Girls - Girls’ Super League Division 2 or GSL Div 2.

Year 9/10 Girls- Girls’ Super League Division 1 or GSL Div 1.

There will be eight divisions in total. Four divisions for the boys and four for the girls.

ATTENDANCE

For Inter Club to be a success much depends on all our members attending regularly each Saturday morning. Please do your best. Numbers are a little bit tight in a few divisions so poor attendance will spoil the competitions for others. There will be league competitions as well as cup tournaments.

THE YOUNGER CHILDREN

For the children in Reception, Year One Boys and the Year 1/2 Girls Section the organisation will be a little different, as all these children will be just starting off playing football. EXTRA INFORMATION YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT INTER CLUB FOOTBALL

INTER CLUB COACHING SESSIONS

Coaching will start for the Reception children and Year One boys once the hectic few Saturdays of children joining FJSC slows down a little. More details will follow later. Until then all children in these age groups will have the one-hour for football with short breaks.

Coaching for many girls’ age groups will take place at 10.10 am until 10.50am. Each age group will be informed of arrangements separately. All girls’ Inter Club games will start at 11am.

Some boys’ age groups will also have coaching sessions during the course of the morning. Again each group will be informed about this.

INTER CLUB REFEREES

We are always looking to find willing parents to referee. If interested please tell your Inter Club controller. A list of refs can then be drawn up and the volunteers may be called upon only occasionally.

Please remember that there are no offsides and of course volunteers will only be asked to referee their own child’s match. The only thing we ask is that refs do not coach their own child’s team as they are refereeing and scoring for your child’s team is strictly forbidden. Believe or not this did happen a few years ago! Unfortunately we do not have goal line technology available but with the help of eagle-eyed parents to assist we do not normally have any problems.

Referees are asked to keep a record of the scorers on the card provided. Please write clearly with the first name and surname of the child. Sometimes for example we can have a number of children with the same first name in the same year group. Referees are then asked to hand in the card with the final score and scorers to the Inter Club organiser at the end of the match.

INTER CLUB EXPECTATIONS FROM SUPPORTERS

Inter Club football matches have always had the reputation for being played in a friendly atmosphere. This is extremely important. Spectators are asked to encourage the children of both teams. Verbal criticism to players or referees is not acceptable at all.

NO INTER CLUB MANAGERS

There are no team managers at Inter Club. If there are team meetings at half time this is by the children of the team by themselves.

INTER CLUB PLAYING POSITIONS

ALL Inter Club children can play in any position that they wish to give a try. This way they naturally find the best position for themselves. Players are not to tell other children where they have to play.

GOALKEEPERS

The referee will give each team member a number before the game. The ref will, during the game, call out a number so everyone has a short spell in goal.

SHIN PADS

Shin pads are to be worn for Inter Club matches.

SPORTSMANSHIP

ALL children are to show sportsmanship whether win, draw or lose. Handshakes are expected with the words well played are all part of the match experience.

LETTERS TO SCHOOLS

All the Formby Primary Schools will receive letters from the club about football for Reception and the other Inter Club times plus letters for girls’ football. It is hoped that the schools will be able to give the letters out despite a very busy beginning to their school year. This should help increase numbers in certain age groups over the next few weeks.

HANDBOOKS

The annual FJSC Handbook will be given out to all Inter Club members soon. The handbook will also be able to be downloaded from Documents on the FJSC website. Please find time to read or browse through the updated 2017-18 version as it tells you so much you need to know about FJSC. This is particularly useful for new club members.

BAD WEATHER ON INTER CLUB MATCH DAYS

If there is a doubt about whether matches will be on or off we have ways of trying to let you know if at all possible. At 8.30am on Saturdays if there is to be a change of normal arrangements parents can telephone 01704 873238 and you will receive a recorded message. We will also, if time, place a message on LATEST NEWS on the club website. We will, if we have your email address send out a message and finally we will leave a message through social media.

Every effort will be made to play matches but please remember that we need to also take into consideration the age of some of the children. If, as sometimes happens Sefton MBC cancel the use of the pitches earlier in the week the club will try to make alternative arrangements.

FJSC REPRESENTATIVE TEAM NEWS

CONGRATULATIONS

A boy who started his football in Reception a number of years ago received some fantastic news last week.

On the last day of the transfer window eighteen-year-old defender KYLE JAMESON of CHELSEA was transferred on a one year contract to Premier League WEST BROMWICH ALBION and will be playing for the Under 23 team. We all wish Kyle the best of luck.

It just proves from a small beginning what is possible with hard work and determination.
