The board is out! Pop your unwanted plastic bags in and others can use them to clean the beach! 2 mi

LOVEmyBEACH; a North West campaign working to improve beaches and bathing waters, has partnered with National Trust Formby to launch the first two minute beach clean board on the Sefton coast this week.

The boards are a concept designed and built in Cornwall but thanks to the LOVEmyBEACH campaign are now being stationed across the North West coast.

The simple A-frame structure hosts several litter pickers, bin bags and instructions on how to safely get involved. They’re designed to encourage anyone and everyone to participate in keeping the beach clean, even for just two minutes.

Louise Mitchell from the National Trust said: “We’re really excited to introduce a two minute beach clean board here in Formby.

“As one of the North West’s most iconic, natural beaches Formby welcomes thousands of visitors each year. We’re hoping that seeing the board alone will remind people that responsible disposal of litter is every individual’s responsibility and are confident that the boards will get used by residents and visitors.”

Stephanie Wyatt, LOVEmyBEACH campaign manager added: “The North West beaches and seas are the cleanest they’ve been in over 20 years and the boards, and the people who use them, will contribute to maintaining these standards.

“It’s not just the boards that people can get involved in though, there’s plenty more that can be done including behaviours at home like pouring the right things down the drain or not flushing anything but pee, poo and paper down the toilet.”

Andrea Dell went with her son and his friend to have a go of the 2 minute beach clean and this is what she said "We've just returned from a lovely couple of hours on our beach. We spotted this new stand for beach clean up. My son and his friend had a go. The national trust rangers we're very happy as they'd only set it up half an hour previously and the boys were the first takers. I think its great as it teaches children to help keep our world clean and also even if we've not left the rubbish we can help clean it up for the sake of our environment!"
