Hightown beach clean was a great success
Hightown beach clean 20 august A great BIG thanks to all 25 volunteers who turned out today to help clean our beach which really needed it after all the latest bad weather. Special thanks to Nick Gordon who brought along a group of cricket players from the Zimbabwe cricket academy to help out in the local community. Well done to them and also to all our other volunteers who on a lovely sunny day cleared 28 bags of rubbish, mainly from the new area we have expanded to left off the sailing club. That will be 32.5 bags of rubbish including 2 bags of glass we have cleared this month. Well done to all involved the beach is looking a lot better as we expand our cleaning area. Sefton council rangers have also finally fixed the fence on the foot path by alt centre.
On a sad note, a dead seal was found today and has been reported to the rangers to be removed, also a number of dead birds which we cleared, maybe casualties of the weather, we will never know.
Our next clean is the MARINE CONSERVATION SOCIETY big beach clean SEPT 17TH held all over the country so m.c.s can collect data to use to change the way litter gets into the environment and make companies redesign their processes e.g plastic cotton buds now being made of paper. Government banning micro beads in body wash just a couple of results from us giving the m.c.s data to use.
Why not join our group and help us keep our coast safe and clean if not for us but for our marine wildlife .
