Over eighty local Army Cadets are ready for the challenge of Annual Camp
Eighty Army Cadets from the Sefton area, including Formby, will make up a total of three hundred from Merseyside, going to their twelve days Annual Camp at Otterburn in Northumberland. They will be going from 7th to the 18th August.
During the period they will have a comprehensive programme which will include drill and turnout parades, first aid, map and compass, fieldcraft, navigation exercise, shooting, plus overnight expeditions.
They will also spend time at Kielder Water Adventure Centre doing watermanship, building rafts (and testing that they float!), rock climbing, initiative tests and a zipp wire.
Recent new Instructors will complete the next phase of their training with a course run by a Regular Army Training Team.
The Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dame Lorna Muirhead, is their Honorary Colonel, and she will be visiting them to see them training. It will be her eleventh Annual Camp visit and sadly her last with her retirement in September 2017.
