Open Golf champion's home burgled in Formby as police appeal to catch raiders
Thieves steal cash, clothes, watches and cards from a Formby home as top golfer was playing at Royal Birkdale.
Merseyside Police detectives are urging people to help them catch the burglars who ransacked the luxury home being rented by Open golf champion Henrik Stenson on Thursday 20th July.
Raiders struck on the property on Freshfield Road in Formby while Stenson, who lifted the Claret Jug at Royal Troon last year, was playing in the 2017 Open at Royal Birkdale golf course in Southport.
Merseyside Police detectives have launched an investigation after a burglary in Formby on Thursday 20th July. At around 5pm, a report was received of a burglary at a house in Freshfield Road. It is initially believed that the incident took place at some time between midday and 2.45pm. Cash, cards, electrical items, clothes and watches were stolen. CCTV, house-to-house and forensic enquiries are being carried out and reassurance has been given to the victim. Detective Inspector Simon Vaughan said: “We are determined to identify those responsible and as with every burglary victim, we are carrying out a thorough investigation, offering reassurance and crime prevention advice. “The Hugo Boss clothing taken is very personal to the victim and can be identified by a distinctive NETJETS sponsorship logo, so if anyone is offered such clothing, please contact us immediately. “If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Freshfield Road area between these times, please call us.
