Hightown Village will celebrate 70th Flower Show this Saturday 15th July
The Hightown Village Flower Show will take place this year on Saturday 15th July. This is a major event in Hightown village. The Flower Show is held each year on the 3rd Saturday in July in St Stephen's Church Hall. This year is the 70th show.
There are many classes, indeed something for everyone – young and indeed not so young. Fruit, vegetables, herbs, flowers, home baking, jams, marmalades, wines. Handicrafts, embroidery, painting and photography.
There are sections purely for children which include children’s art, handwriting, modeling, crafts and photography.
Indeed these are just a few of the possibilities. The cups are awarded at the end of the show, are highly prized by class winners and returned at the end of each year ready for the next show.
Entry is open to residents of Hightown, Little Crosby, Ince Blundell, Homer Green and Lunt and their relatives under 16yrs. The show is also open to members of the Hightown Gardening Club and pupils of St. Mary's Primary School, Little Crosby and their parents. Anyone having a business or employed in Hightown including their immediate family is also eligible. The show also attracts visitors from all around the area.
The event is ‘non-political’ and ‘non-profit making’ so relies heavily on the support of local companies, residents, patrons and sponsorship for support. A raffle drawn at the end of the event also helps to pay expenses and fund the Children’s prizes.
Entries are staged on the morning of the event, the Hall being cleared at 11.30am to allow the judges to commence their work. They come from all around the area and are highly respected and experienced individuals with much knowledge of their respective classes.
Doors are open to the public at 2.30pm. The prizes will be presented at 4.00pm. by The Worshipful the Mayor of Sefton, Councillor Dave Robinson.
Come along and enjoy the show. Entry is £2.00 which includes refreshments. Children 50p.
