Twelve teams compete for the prestigious Kings Cup at Altcar
LOCAL RESERVISTS SUPPORT THE CADETS.
Altcar Training Camp hosted a weekend competition run by the local Reservists Squadrons of 156 Royal Logistic Corps.
The competition was for the prestigious Kings Cup and 12 teams from Merseyside Army Cadet Force competed for it. The teams from all their Detachments were mixed up as there were 8 to a team. It consisted of two with each of their four levels of Star training in each team.
There were also twelve stands around the Camp and they had to run them over the 2 days. The 156 RLC., had other Merseyside Reservists Units supporting them, Royal Artillery, Royal Signals, Field Hospital, Royal Engineers, Army Training Unit, Cadet Training Team and University Training Corps.
The weather on the Saturday was terrible with rain and high winds but the Cadets were in great spirit and enjoying the challenge.
Sunday was much better and the final stands were completed. After a good Lunch the teams were paraded and their results given out. Team 12 was declared the Winner. Presenting the prizes was the Commanding Officer of 156 RLC, Colonel Tim Gould and Colonel Ray Hughes, Assistant Commander Headquarters NW., and he presented to the Team with the Kings Cup.
The Kings Cup was presented for a Cadet Competition years ago when it was the Kings Regiment (now the Duke of Lancasters Regiment) and the Cup went 'missing' for a number of years. It was found last year and run by local Reservists Units at another Camp. However it was held again at Altcar Camp this year and it is now an annual fixture for it to be held at Altcar each year now.
