Four-Storey apartment block to be built in Formby

Plans have been submitted to Sefton Council for a new four-storey apartment block with 12 apartments to be built in Formby. There will also be associated car parking and amenity space. The site is on the former dairy farm at 5 Marsh Brows. The block would be built following the demolition of the farm at Marsh Brows, near to Brows Lane and Duke Street, and would feature two-bedroom apartments with off-road parking. The plans say that the apartments will be generously sized with two double bedrooms and en-suite to the master bedroom. The planning application states: "The proposed building is reduced in scale by reducing it to a number of volumes by stepping the building in plan, using a palette of three distinct materials and treating the top floor as a lightweight roof element. The building has four storeys. However, the top floor is recessed to the wall below thus creates impression of pitched roof. This feature is supported by usage of dark grey colour of the top floor".

The reason for this is to try and make it 'fit in' with the one and two-storey homes which surround it. It is stated that the development will be designed to fit in with the area.

Formby Civic Society objected to the application. They said: "The architectural style would be at variance with that of other buildings in the vicinity, poor transition between more traditional from of development and that now proposed. The site is too small to accommodate a building of the proposed size and there is a lack of outdoor space. The building would be excessively dominant in the street scene, would tower over three terraced dwellings proposed adjacent, impact accentuated by rectangular form of the building."

The application has been made by McComb Property Company. The planning application was validated on 8th May.
