Energy efficiencies at Formby pool
Formby Pool Trust are pleased to confirm the installation of a Solar Photovoltaic System
at the Pool. A system that comprises of 196 panels used to convert the sun's radiation
into usable electricity, providing the Trust with savings in the region of £10,000 per
annum.
Solar is just part of a substantial invest to save programme implemented by the Trust
throughout the last 18 months, a programme that has facilitated a reduction in electricity
consumption by 42%. Investments have included the replacement of all original 54w
light fittings with 18w LED alternatives, and installation of swimming pool covers, also
expected to save approximately £10,000 a year.
As an environmentally conscious organisation FPT continue to demonstrate a
commitment to improving efficiency whilst reducing its carbon footprint. In financial
terms, energy costs account for approximately 10% of the Trust's total expenditure.
Minimising consumption serves to enhance the Trust's long term financial sustainability.
Head of Operations, David Kiernan states “We have made great strides in our quest to
become a more energy efficient organisation, and we have no intention of resting on our
laurels. We will continue to explore opportunities to further enhance our existing high
standards of energy and resource management”.
Facilities Manager Chris Von Bargen adds “Without getting too technical, the investment
has provided our maintenance team with the tools and data required to make a
significant difference. We are very ambitious and intend to become an example of best
practice for other leisure facilities.”
