Formby Pharmacist is running London Marathon for Cancer Research UK

A Formby pharmacist is trying to raise funds for Cancer Research UK by running 26.2 miles in this year’s Virgin London Marathon. 50-year-old Martin Hough of Ryders Chemist in Old Town Lane says that he is raising money for the cancer charity because he deals with cancer patients on a daily basis and wishes to do more to improve their treatments.

The event will take place on Sunday April 23rd and Martin is hoping to get some support from the local community.

Martin says, “Cancer Research UK estimates that 400,000 fewer people will die from cancer over the next 20 years thanks to advances in research. That’s got to be a goal worth striving for. That is why I am running the London Marathon 2017 for Cancer Research UK. I last ran the London Marathon 9 years ago in 2008 and I know how much training is involved. There have already been many hours of pavement pounding in wintry conditions and there are still a few more weeks to go. So it will not be easy. But there can’t be a family that hasn’t been hit by cancer. Mine has and I want to do something about it. Cancer Research is saving lives now and will save more lives in the future. I’d like to raise £1,000 for this charity, but I need your help. Please donate whatever you can spare. I’ll get the blisters and the arthritic knees but you can get the satisfaction of knowing that your donation will help more people beat cancer. Thank you.”
