Franks Report 6th March

FRANK'S REPORT 06/03/17 6 Mar, 2017

Muddy pitches last Saturday and torrential rain on Sunday caused many Formby Junior Sports Club matches to be cancelled much to the disappointment of many club members.

There was no Inter Club football at Deansgate Lane but a switch to Hugh McAuley’s 3G pitches at Formby Play Sport made it possible for half of the Inter Club Section to have a match last Saturday.

The one hundred and thirty children invited to attend were almost in full attendance. It was goals galore as two hundred and forty-five goals were scored by seventy-three different scorers. Eleven matches were played at an average of twenty-two goals per game.

If the same situation arises again, the 3G arrangements will be offered to the children who missed out on this occasion. This is subject to the pitches being available. Now we are officially in the season of spring hopefully this might not happen again and we have a clear run of “football on grass Saturdays” until the end of the season.

Three out of the five divisions started their cup matches whilst the other two group matches were counted as friendlies. In the Boys’ Super League Division Four there were wins for Ravens and Kingfishers. Albion, Rangers and United were victorious in the Boys’ Super League Division Two. The Girls’ Super League Division Two also played their Round One matches with Seahawks and Sharks both off to a good start with wins. The Division Three results in both the boys and the girls groups were friendlies.

BOYS’ REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

Only three matches were played.

FJSC Under 15’s played away in an important league match at Birkdale SAC. Four boys were unavailable including the goalkeeper but the depleted team showed a lot of determination to draw 4-4 after trailing in this exciting match.

Owen Highton scored twice. Also on target with one goal each were Oliver Morton and Harvey Nevin. Man of the match was Daniel Hughes. FJSC Under 15’s remain top of the league.

It was a top of the table clash in the Under 12 Championship Division. Dan King gave FJSC Under 12 Blacks the lead, away at league leaders Churchtown. However Churchtown drew level from a penalty and scored the winner late on. It was a good performance by the Blacks with goalkeeper Luke Phillips and midfielder Kyle Phillips in fine form. Man of the match Callum Davidson was well supported in defence by James Wilson and Andrew Kimmance.

The match between FJSC Under 9’s and Crosby Stuart like most Sunday fixtures was played in torrential rain. The two teams are to be congratulated on a tremendous effort. Honours were even at the end of a high quality match. Ben Murphy, Christian Maher and Nathan Cousens all played well. Stand-in goalkeeper Corey Ashworth made a crucial save. Jamie Simpson was man of the match.

GIRLS’ REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Real produced a strong team performance in the 6 nil victory over Rainford Rangers. On a very muddy pitch Real adjusted very well to the playing conditions. Girl of the game Jasmin Stevens led the way with two well-taken goals. Maisie Cox scored from a penalty. Ava Lewis, Ruby Houghton and Georgia Garforth added to the scoreline with one goal each.

FJSC Under 12 United played well against Remyca. United conceded a goal in each half but with five minutes remaining Maddie Houghton scored a great goal on the turn for FJSC to set up an exciting finale. United tried in vain to level the score but Remyca held firm. Hannah Allmark was voted girl of the match.

FJSC Under 8 Rockets and FJSC Under 8 Tornados played each other. All the girls persevered in very difficult conditions. Florence Raikes, Harriet Tunley and Megan Hulse scored.

The match between FJSC Under 13 Jets and Crosby Stuart was agreed to become a friendly match at half time so that all the very cold substitutes could all be brought on in the second half in order that all the girls could play at the same time. It was a very sensible decision in a bid to warm up all the girls.

In probably the worst playing conditions of the season so far last Sunday all the boys and girls teams together with the spectators are all to be congratulated for seeing out a very difficult morning’s football. All these matches started in light rain but as the matches progressed the rain became heavier and heavier. All the children were determined to finish their matches despite the appalling weather. Well done everyone.
