Formby Rotary present new bench to Formby Library
The Rotary Club of Formby celebrates it's 50th Anniversary this year. As part of it's commemorative events the Club has presented a new bench to be placed outside Formby Library.
The bench was handed over to Sefton Council recently. The Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Iain Brodie-Browne, Chairman of Formby Parish Council Bob McCann and his wife, Andrew Farthing, Principal Library Manager attended the handover along with Jim Charnock, a founder member of the Club and the Club President, Peter Connor and members of Formby Rotary Club.
The Club would like to thank the library staff for their hospitality on what was a very cold and windy day! The tea and coffee were most welcome! Thanks to Ian Edgeley, Library manager, and staff members, Victoria Scott, Rob Tilston, Sarah Jones, Louise Harrison, Emilie McMahon and last but not least, Josh Clarke who was left with the washing up!
The Mayor, Iain Brodie-Browne said: "As Mayor I have been called upon to open all manner of things this year but, there was a first on my recent visit to Formby Library when I was asked by Formby Rotary to cut the ribbon on a new park bench to mark the clubs 50th Anniversary."
He went on to say: "Over that period the Rotarians have raised several hundred thousand pounds for good causes locally and internationally. Local residents will know them for the Christmas Carol Wagon. Speaking to members they have some exciting plans for the half-century celebrations."
