Formby High School musicians in Battle of the Somme evening

Formby High School music department are taking part in the Battle of The Somme performance on Thursday 23rd February in Formby.
The Imperial War Museum commissioned composer Laura Rossi to score ‘The Battle of the Somme’ for the 90th anniversary in 2006. Its debut performance was recorded and performed live with the film by the Philharmonic Orchestra for the premier at The Queen Elizabeth Hall and received a five star review in The Times newspaper.
100 performances of ‘The Battle of the Somme’ are taking place across the country as part of the First World War Centenary Commemorations. Both professional and amateur orchestras will be performing Laura Rossi’s score live with the film to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle.
We are delighted to confirm that one of the 100 performances nationwide will be musicians from Formby High School who will be joined by local musicians in a collaborative performance and screening of ‘The Battle of the Somme’. The live performance will take place on 23 February at Holy Trinity Church in Formby at 7:30pm.
