A new Clubhouse for the TinTab at Freshfield Bowling Club

Building works have commenced with an enormous sense of optimism and excitement at the prospect of a revamped and new look clubhouse known as The 'TinTab' at Freshfield Bowls Club on Timms Lane in Formby.
Freshfield Bowling Club was formed in 1894. The clubhouse is a restored and adapted Tin Tabernacle Church. It is a unique building and is a hallmark of the club but was in need of an upgrade.
Building works, which included a partial demolition, started in late December are set to take about two months to complete when they will see a brand new Clubhouse, newly refurbished bar, cellar, entrance area and toilets.
The project was made possible through the hard-working Committee and, most importantly, the club members but what goes unseen is the work and effort of volunteers who attended the site to assist in its demolition and preparations for reconstruction.
The bowling green is also being rested and treated over the Winter, so everything will hopefully be ready to start a new era for the TinTab, the club which also boasts a terrific Snooker table and Darts playing area, eight league teams (several in the top division of their leagues), and fantastic Sam Smith's beer at £2 a pint!
Members will welcome the new TinTab with great eagerness and hopefully encourage new members to join. The opening weekend will be linked with a bowling competition between the club's eight bowling teams.
Until then, the first meeting to take place in the new year will be the Sports Meeting at 2pm on Sunday 19th February 2017 at Formby Cricket Club, followed, back at Freshfield Bowling Club, by the opening bowling weekend on, hopefully, 31 March - 2 April.
Sports Captain, Chris Jones said of the rebuild, "Whilst Freshfield Bowling Club is predominately a Bowls Club, members take equal delight in participating in the various indoor events we host. The Snooker and Darts competitions, which take place throughout the year, are both popular and competitive. The Tintab clubhouse is just as an important a venue, in a competitive sense, as the outdoor green. I am delighted with the plans for the club."
