Dont turn a blind eye to Fly - Tipping Report it!
Sefton Council is warning fly tippers to think twice following the successful prosecution of a man from Wigan.
Ben Molyneux, 41, of Norfolk Street was fined a total of £763.40 at South Sefton Magistrates Court on January 17 after he was caught illegally disposing of rubbish at Ainsdale Discovery Centre.
The prosecution comes as Sefton Council launches a name and shame blitz in a bid to warn potential offenders against fly tipping.
Mr Molyneux pleaded guilty to the charges and Magistrates fined him £120 plus a £30 victim surcharge and costs of £613.40.
Cllr Paulette Lappin, Cabinet Member for Regulatory, Compliance and Corporate Services, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to successfully prosecute this individual for fly tipping.
“Unfortunately, many people believe that they can dispose of rubbish wherever they want causing issues for residents and draining Council services.
“Hopefully this case will act as a deterrent to other potential offenders.”
It is estimated during the 2015/16 financial year, Sefton Council spent almost £400K in relation to the clearance, disposal and enforcement of fly tipping offences.
If any residents have any concerns regarding fly tipping or wish to report an offence, they should contact Sefton Council on 0345 140 0845 or report it via the website website sefton.gov.uk.
