There was a thrilling match between FJSC Under 9’s and Redgate Rovers Green. GIRLS’ REPRESENTATIVE TEAM FOOTBALL

FJSC Under 14’s entertained league leaders Burnley in the only girls’ match played during the weekend. Lily Hamilton gave FJSC an early lead with a left foot shot. Burnley quickly equalised.

The Under 14’s continued to play with great confidence and took the lead again when Lily Hamilton outpaced the Burnley defence to score another excellent goal. Burnley applied a lot of pressure on the FJSC defence. Goalkeeper Rachel Robinson made a great save and from her next long goal kick striker Lily Hamilton again clinically finished to give FJSC a 3-1 lead and a fine hat trick.

The FJSC defence of Sammy Godsall, Erin Smith, Abby Hobbs and Freya Walsh held firm. Holly Pearson was also very prominent. Lucy Robins worked hard up and down the pitch and Ella Lawson supported well in attack. All was going so well until an unfortunate injury to goalkeeper Rachel Robinson, who was unable to continue, changed the outcome of the match.

Burnley took their chances as a reorganised FJSC Under 14’s tried so hard to hold onto their lead. Four Burnley goals in the closing minutes were scored to give the leaders a 5-3 win. The entire FJSC team can be proud of their efforts. The girl of the game was Josie McIver.

All the fixtures in the Hightown Girls’ League involving nine FJSC teams were postponed on Sunday due to heavy overnight rain. FJSC Under 17’s and FJSC Under 15’s in the West Lancs League had no fixtures.
