Formby Junior Sports Club news and Frank's report

FRANK'S REPORT 16/10/16

Formby Junior Sports Club’s start to its fifty-eighth season has surpassed all expectations.

With the always extremely hectic first quarter of the season now almost completed it seems a fitting time to give you a brief report on many aspects of the club.

MEMBERSHIP

FJSC’s membership has now reached four hundred and sixty-one, ranging from Reception (four year olds) to under eighteen. There are presently three hundred and fifteen boys and one hundred and forty-six girls playing football each weekend. At the same time last year there were three hundred and eighty-three members. This is an increase of seventy-eight children. It is FJSC’s highest membership in mid October since 2010.

Good reports about FJSC have spread far and wide and as well as having the majority of its membership from all the Formby schools there are club members from twenty other Primary Schools and eighteen High Schools.

INTER CLUB FOOTBALL

Since the start of September a large number of very enthusiastic new members have joined the club each week in every age group. This has had a big impact on the organisation of the Inter Club Section. There are now nine different divisions. Five groups are in the Boys’ Section. There are groups for Reception, Year One, Year Two, Year Three and combined groups for Year Four and Year Five and also an older division for boys in Year Six and Year Seven. Inter Club now caters for over three hundred boys each Saturday morning. This too, is the best for many years.

The Girls’ Inter Club has also seen an increase in numbers and has also resulted, due to its popularity, the age group rise to include girls in Year Nine and even Year Ten. There are five groups – a section for Year One/Two and Three; one for Year Three/Four/Five; a Year Six/Seven division and an older division for the girls in Year Eight and Year Nine. The Girls’ Section is now available for one hundred and thirty girls to attend.

Our youngest age groups have also been a great success. FJSC has a Reception age group for boys and girls; a thriving Boys’ Year One group and an equally keen group of Year One and Two girls. These four to seven year olds total about seventy in number and the combination of excellent coaching sessions and small-sided games has been very successful and popular.

Now that FJSC has thirty- two Inter Club teams, plus our young age groups, it has meant that more help has been needed to assist the hard working Inter Club organisers. The response from willing parents has been excellent and in all nine groups help has been welcomed and has made a huge difference to Saturday Inter Club.

The simple fact that all the Inter Club children play football regularly each week and have equal full game time, the standard of football played has seen a marked improvement since the start of the season. The children are allowed to try out any position they wish to play in and as a result find a position on the field that suits them.

INTER CLUB COACHING

To assist in improving individual football skills the number of coaching sessions before and after Inter Club games has doubled. Every available area of grass, not already being played on for matches, is being used for this large number of Inter Club age groups. In addition to our regular guest coaches from Everton FC, many of FJSC’s newly trained and qualified FA coaches are coaching a large number of Inter Club children each Saturday. This has been a big plus and an important aspect. As a Football Association Charter Standard Development Club, FJSC has been very keen to expand on its coaching opportunities. The willingness of club coaches to help coach the Inter Club children as well as their own Representative teams has been very much appreciated by the children, parents and the club.

New members are always welcome to join the Inter Club Section so it is hoped that numbers will continue to grow throughout the season.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS

Thirty-two FJSC Representative teams play in local leagues each weekend. This is the highest number of teams FJSC has ever fielded in a season. There are twenty Boys’ teams and twelve Girls’ Representative teams making FJSC one of the biggest junior clubs in Merseyside.

Every Representative team has made an excellent start to the season. There are brand new Boys’ Representative teams – FJSC Under 7 White, FJSC Under 7 Black, FJSC Under 8 Rangers and FJSC Under 10 White. The Girls’ Section has three new Representative teams – FJSC Under 8 Rockets, FJSC Under 8 Tornados (for girls under eight and under seven) and FJSC Under 9 Atletico. A number of the FJSC teams are currently top of their respective divisions or hold undefeated records so far this season.

All the Representative teams also have coaching either in midweek or at weekends. Again our very industrious coaches and team managers give up their voluntary time for these talented young footballers.

Nine club members have already been selected for regional school squads for the season. This is a wonderful achievement in such a strong area for football.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

FJSC is proud to say that it a sister club to Everton Ladies FC. This has brought about opportunities for our members (both girls and boys) to have expert coaching from Everton Coaches. Representative Team managers have also been invited to attend Everton Ladies Coaching sessions taken by the Everton Ladies Team Manager and his staff in order for FJSC’s managers to gain more knowledge of coaching skills and techniques. Many of our young members have been mascots at Everton and Liverpool Ladies home matches. One of FJSC’s Girls’ teams was also invited to a national competition held at Manchester City recently. The girls played at the famous Etihad Complex, and then were spectators at the Continental Cup Final before chatting to and having photographs taken with England Ladies and Manchester City stars. All this has happened already this season! This has been fantastic for FJSC.

In a nutshell if a report was written, just like a school half term report, it would read something like this :-

Formby Junior Sports Club has made an excellent start to the season. Now it is important to maintain this standard throughout the year. Well done to everyone involved.
