Cllr Urges Parents to Help Keep Children Safe on their Bikes
A Blundellsands Labour Councillor is urging parents to make sure that their children are riding their bikes safely, where they are allowed to do so and that they are visible at all times.
Diane Roscoe, Councillor for Blundellsands said "Whilst it is great that children are increasingly using bicycles to exercise, so improving their fitness and health, parents should make sure that their children are doing this safely. Nights are drawing in, so please make sure that your child has suitable lights on their bikes and reflective strips on their clothing. I am liaising closely on this matter with the local Police.”
Merseyside Police Neighbourhood Sergeant Jon Coote said: “We completely endorse Councillor Roscoe’s comments and I would like to add that all families have a duty of care to ensure that their children are visible at all times, for their own safety and that of other pedestrians and road users. Please check that all bikes and riders are properly equipped before allowing children to use them.”
