Reports of Dangerous Bikes on Formby By-Pass
On Wednesday August 17th Merseyside Police received three alerts about off road motorbikes with no plates driving at speed up and down the Formby By-Pass. The first was called in at 17:50, the second call was made at 20:44 and the third call was logged at 22:55.
There was a group of approximately six bikes involved, all riders were wearing dark clothing and not all of them wearing helmets.
It is unclear if it was the same group on all three occasions.
Patrols were sent out but no apprehensions were made as the riders could not be found.
An eyewitness told us:
“On Wednesday evening at 17:45 whilst driving towards Southport a group of motorcross bikes joined the Formby Bypass at the T junction with the Harvester Red Squirrel pub.
They had no number plates so were presumably illegal and uninsured and were extremely dangerous, doing wheelies, undertaking and weaving amongst traffic. It was extremely unsafe and unnerving for all the other drivers. They appeared to be young males. They weren’t all wearing helmets and one bike had a pillion passenger who kept looking behind him to see if the others were catching up.
I exited at the BP station roundabout so do not know where they went from there, the incident has been reported to the police.”
