Human excrement and hoards of rubbish left by the travellers on Bills Lane
On Wednesday 3rd August, a group of travellers set up camp on Bills Lane in Formby.
A Section 77 Notice was issued to the travellers on 4th August. A section 77 is a Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 which means they (The Travellers) have to leave the site within the following 3 days.
The following Monday 8th August, a legal representative from Sefton Council went to court and gained the signed summons, which was served on the Travellers that day.
With regards to the unauthorised encampment on Bills Lane, Formby, a spokesperson from Sefton Council provided the following update: "The summons provides the Travellers notice of a court date (set for Thursday morning), whereby, the Council will seek a removal order. On possession of the removal order the Council will then arrange for the Travellers to be removed, this is likely to take place on Thursday afternoon or Friday, if they have not vacated prior to this themselves."
The travellers did choose to vacate themselves and moved off Bills Lane on Wednesday evening of 10th August. They left an absolute mess on the field with the grass burnt where they had fires, rubbish, rubble and even human excrement was left at the site.
Declan Kearney of Sefton Council said: "As you are probably now aware, the travellers vacated the Bills Lane site at tea-time last night - Wednesday 10th August but, have left an awful mess behind. Our Cleansing Dept will be on site tomorrow, Friday 12th August, to remove all the tipped rubbish on the site and our Grounds Maintenance team will follow up any GM issues to be dealt with."
He went on to say: "With regard to securing the site in the future, this is a difficult one as there are two houses in the far corner of the site. To install a collapsible bollard would be of great inconvenience to the residents."
Whilst on site over the weekend, the residents suffered with late night parties, noise, shouting and anti-social behaviour. One resident said: "It's 12pm and the music's blaring and my children are awake! So unfortunately I will take the majority vote and say they are a nuisance and causing havoc in our community!"
Another resident said: "I live right behind these travellers and they kept me up till late last night with their music. Screaming kids and dogs barking. Lets see how nice the field looks when they have left!"
After the travellers left, a resident posted a warning on Formby Bubble Facebook page: "I have Just been to walk my dog on Bills Lane now the travellers have left. Brought gloves and a bag to pick up some of the plastic rubbish. Be carefull letting your dogs off the lead as there is A LOT of waste (inculding human) the council will need to clear."
