Golden Bridge Restaurant is awarded five stars

Sefton Council Environmental Health Officers have been working with the Golden Bridge Restaurant on Duke Street in Formby to help them achieve their goal of a five star food hygiene rating.

On 30th June, they were finally awarded the highest rating of five stars.

The Golden Bridge Restaurant offers chinese cuisine and has been serving the people of Formby for over forty years, previously on Chapel Lane and now on Duke Street alongside the Formby Bridge.

Previously, the restaurant boasted a 3-star rating prior to being demoted to a 1-star in March this year after a visit from Environmental Health Officers. A customer complained of the chicken being bad in a meal bought from the premises. The restaurant have sinced worked really hard and made dramatic changes to achieve their new rating which they are proud of.

At the inspection, the officer will check:

how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored. Also, the condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities, how the business manages what it does to make sure food is safe and so that the officer can be confident standards will be maintained in the future. Each of these three elements is essential for making sure that food hygiene standards meet requirements and the food served or sold to you is safe to eat.

Businesses in England do not have to display their rating. So if you see a business without a hygiene rating sticker or certificate, you’ll have to decide if you want to eat or buy food from there without knowing the hygiene standards.

Putting a hygiene rating on show is a good advertisement for businesses that meet the requirements of food hygiene law. A good food hygiene rating is good for business.
