Bin It 4 Beaches Campaign
Sefton Council is pleased to support the national launch of the 'Bin it 4 Beaches' campaign from Love My Beach and the Environment Agency.
The school holidays have started and for many that means fun at the seaside. What’s better at the beach than fish and chips? Or a picnic? Or ice cream? But what a pain if seagulls swoop down to peck at your panini. Not only are they ruthless with chip dives, they end up pooing in the sea where we paddle and swim. Yuk! The Environment Agency measures the amount of bacteria in bathing waters to determine how clean they are, and bird poo can be one source of that bacteria.
So if you’re heading to the seaside these holidays, please take a bag for your litter and leftover food and #binit4beaches or take it home.
According to the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean 2015 data of litter collected on beach cleans, food related litter is the third most common litter found on the beach, after plastics and glass. Binning leftover food and litter can make a difference to the water and beach and leaves them clean for the marine life and visitors.
There are loads of volunteers cleaning beaches all over the North West who do an amazing job so please support them and leave the beach clean.
