New CCTV system installed in Formby Village this morning
This morning a new CCTV system was installed in Formby village following requests from local residents to update the old system. Formby Parish Council have had the system updated after surveys highlighted the fact that many people felt unsafe at certain times in the Village area.
Councillor Maria Bennett told us;
“The new CCTV system has been put in by Formby Parish Council. The old system which was over 10 years old was not fit for purpose anymore and the images were not very clear and therefore we looked at having mobile cameras installed with clear images to capture the village and also to make people feel safe as there had been several issues in the village, including a stabbing, during the past 12 months.”
She went on to say “This will be a long term project as more cameras will need to be added in order to cover the whole of the village in the future. Based on the surveys we had done with the residents and the under 18s it had come through that many had a perception of not feeling safe and we hope knowing that these new CCTV cameras are fit for purpose and will pick things up quite clearly that they will feel safe now knowing that these are there to help and protect our community and also act as a deterrent”.
