Air ambulance called to Formby Beach for the third time this week
This afternoon a lady was airlifted to Southport & Formby General hospital after suffering a fall from her horse at Formby beach.
The lady was riding along the beach at the edge of the water as the tide was coming in when a large wave spooked her horse.
Unfortunately as she fell her foot got caught in the stirrup and she was dragged through the water.
Her daughter called the emergency services when she saw that her mother's foot was facing the wrong way once she was free.
The Lifeguards were first on the scene and stretchered the lady to their RNLI truck and took her to the waiting Air Ambulance.
A spokesperson from the Ambulance service said;
"We received a call at 12:10pm and we have taken a lady to Southport & Formby General Hospital by helicopter. The leg injury that she sustained is thought to be a break."
