Local MP welcomes new food donation scheme launched by Tesco
Tesco have launched a programme called Fareshare Foodcloud across many Tesco stores. Tesco Formby are one of the stores involved. This programme helps us to donate surplus edible food to local charities and community groups that help to feed those in need.
We offer charities and community groups a fantastic and reliable service helping them to make the best of their resources and volunteers time. Our partnership with Fareshare FoodCloud helps us do this well across our large stores in the UK.
By joining the programme organisations signed up to this service receive a text message from Fareshare FoodCloud to help make their day to day collection easier. They also benefit from Fareshares ongoing support with the potential to access good from other stores and or/from Farshares food delivery service.
We welcomed local MP Bill Esterson into store along with some of the charities that benefit from this programme.
Yvonne from Caradoc Kids Club in Litherland says being a member of this scheme has enabled them to feed more children each day, who otherwise may not get a decent meal.
Woodvale community centre now provide free hot meals as a benefit from being on the programme.
Each charity is given a set evening and are sent a text message to say what is available and they come and collect an hour later.
