Very High Tide this afternoon at Formby beach
There is a very high tide at 1:53pm today in Formby. If you are heading down there, please be careful.
There will be little or no beach available for approximately one hour either side of this time. Today the tide at Formby will rise to 9.50m and will be at it's highest at 1:53pm this afternoon.
Each month, on the day of the new moon, the Earth, moon and sun are aligned, with the moon in between. This line-up creates wide-ranging tides, known as spring tides. High spring tides climb up especially high, and on the same day low tides plunge especially low.
The April 7 extra-close new moon will accentuate the spring tide, giving rise to what’s called a perigean spring tide. In Formby you have seen the high tides since April 7th but also watch for high tides caused by May 2016 new moons – or supermoons.
