Dramatic air rescue on Formby beach today

A woman was airlifted from Formby beach today after injuring her shoulder in a fall. A specialist team from North West Ambulance Service attended the scene after emergency services were called just before 1pm this afternoon - Monday 28th March.

Not knowing exactly where the patient was on the beach, they parked at Lifeboat Road car park with a specialist vehicle from the hazardous area response team which specialises in dealing with challenging terrain such as the beach and sandhills at Formby. They also parked down Albert Road which was more difficult to access but, a bit closer to the location.

The woman was spotted by a Formby Bubble reporter who pointed out where she was to the team in the specialised All-terrain buggy.

The North West Air Ambulance was called in because of difficulty accessing the site where the patient was located near Cabin Hill on Formby beach and not because of severe injury.

The woman was thought to be in her 40's, was not seriously injured and was taken to Aintree University Hospital for treatment.
