Merseyside Police renews vow to clampdown on scrambler bikes

Merseyside Police has renewed its vow to clampdown on people using scrambler bikes and off-road bikes in an antisocial and criminal way on the streets of Merseyside.

Last week the Force joined forces with the Police and Crime Commissioner and Crimestoppers to launch a campaign asking members of the public to report when nuisance bikes are being used in their communities, the people who are riding them and where they are being stored.

Superintendent Mark Morgan said: “We are aware of video footage of scrambler and off-road bikes which have been posted on social media over the weekend and our officers are examining the footage to establish the identity of the individuals responsible.

“I want to make it clear that this is no laughing matter. This type of behaviour has a serious impact on our communities and the thoughtless actions of these individuals could end up with someone being seriously injured or even killed.

“Often it is innocent members of the public who are injured as a result of this behaviour but I want to reassure the law-abiding members of our community that we take issues such as this very seriously.

“But we cannot do this alone. We want people to come forward and tell us who is riding these bikes and where they are storing them. I want to give members of the public my reassurance that we will respond to every bit of information we are given. “We will work our partner agencies and take all necessary action to find the people responsible and seize and crush the bikes.

“Our past success in seizing bikes and making arrests under Operation Brookdale demonstrates that we can and will take action.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 101 or the confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
