Formby Choral Society held an enjoyable and successful Evening of Music and Fun in Holy Trinity Church Hall to raise money for new lightweight, flexible staging.
Individual choir members, more familiar with singing as part of the 125 strong choir, braved the stage to perform in front of an audience of their colleagues and friends.
There was solo singing, duets and humorous sketches as well as performances on piano, violin and tenor horn, many of the players having taken up and practised their instruments for the first time in many months specially for the occasion.
During the interval, cheese and pate platters were provided and there was a fun quiz and a raffle . The show ended with the audience joining in the choruses with a makeshift shanty group of choir members singing well known songs such as Blow the Man Down, Drunken Sailor and Fields of Athenry accompanied by guitar, ukulele, harmonica and tambourine.
The evening was not only a wonderful social occasion but raised over £600 towards the staging equipment.
The hard work of rehearsing continues for the choir's next concert which will be the third concert of our 50th season and takes place on April 16th at Holy Trinity church.
Formby Choral Society was established in 1966 and has been performing regular concerts in Formby for the enjoyment of the local community for the last 50 years and now has 125 members and is one of the leading choirs in the North West.
The choir rehearses weekly at Holy Trinity Church hall in Formby, and gives four public concerts annually in the church.
The programme for the April concert features Puccini's magnificent Messa di Gloria, Mozart's Missa Brevis and the whimsical Songs and Sonnets from Shakespeare by Goerge Shearing.
Tickets, which include a glass of wine at the interval, cost £10 (under 19s Free), available from Gifts In House, Chapel Lane, or by telephoning 07944 542110 or online at www.formbychoralsociety.org
The fourth concert is on 11th June at Holy Trinity, Rosemary Lane, Formby with FORMBY FAVOURITES incorporating Formby Band. It will be a programme of popular choral works, performed over the last 50 years in Formby. More details will follow nearer the time.
