The Good Wool Shop 1st Anniversary Celebrations
The Good Wool Shop will be one year old at the beginning of March this year!
Over the last 12 months this little treasure trove has been attracting customers not just from Formby but as far afield as the Isle of Man, Spain, the USA and Australia.
The starting point for Isabel Jordan, the shop’s owner, was to offer good quality and natural yarns at affordable prices. Having lived in sheep farming areas she wanted to be sure to sell British wool, and has added to that more luxury fibres like alpaca and silk.
As a knitter, Isabel has been overwhelmed by the popularity of crochet and finds that there are usually waiting lists for the shop’s crochet classes. Workshops in knitting techniques like Fair Isle and sock making are also proving popular.
Cathy’s tea room is a welcoming venue for a weekly Knit/Crochet and Natter session and an evening woolly get-together takes place weekly at Café D’Art.
Highlights of the last year, over and above the shop’s usual programme, have included taking a stand at Formby Festival, joining other yarn enthusiasts at Burscough Fibre Festival and school holiday activities for children within the shop.
To mark the shop’s birthday there are plans for a celebration at Café D’Art on Tuesday 1 March, and there will be a party atmosphere in the shop itself on Saturday 5 March.
As a special thankyou to creative customers over the last year, there will be a 10% discount for anyone wearing or bringing in an item they have knitted or crocheted with yarn bought from the Good Wool Shop. The plan is to photograph as many of these as possible to create a full colour exhibition later in the spring. There will be a free prize draw and other goodies on offer too!
The Good Wool Shop shares premises on Chapel Lane in Formby with Derbyshire’s Cards and Gifts, the Flower Studio and Cathy’s Tea Rooms so lots of our customers say a visit to us is like stepping into a mini department store.
