Tesco Formby celebrates 25th anniversary today

Tesco Formby celebrated it's 25th anniversary today. The superstore opened it's doors in 1991 and has grew from strength to strength ever since.

It was a fantastic atmosphere instore as shoppers were offered snacks, nibbles and champagne to celebrate the opening of their store twenty five years ago today.

Joined by Councillor Catie Paige along with store manager Gary Landry and local resident Stanley who is one hundred years old and Tesco staff, who all joined in the celebrations.

Tesco was not new to Formby, the original shop was on Chapel Lane in Formby village as this photograph shows from 1982 when Tesco back then, was considerably smaller and known as Tesco Home 'n' Wear.

The supermarket has an enviable workforce that don't just work in a supermarket, they join in the community and help with numerous community projects which is how they met Stanley.

Stanley is one hundred years old and was invited in by the community team to take the honour of cutting the twenty-five year celebratory cake which he enjoyed very much along with a glass of champagne.

Stanley was there twenty five years ago when the Tesco supermarket opened it's doors and said he was thrilled to cut the cake today.

Tesco Manager, Gary Landry who started work at the Formby store when it opened and then left but, is very proud to be back twenty five years later as Store Manager.

Gary said: "I would like to thank all of our customers for shopping with us over the last 25 years. I would also like to thank all of my colleagues who have worked here during that time also."

He went on to say: "Being a local lad I feel very privileged and humbled to manage Tesco, Formby during these celebrations. I would like to give a special mention to Stan, a local centurion for taking time out to come in and cut the cake today".

We wish Tesco a very happy 25th anniversary and thank them for being such a big part of our community.
