A wide stretch of sand, dynamic dunes and coniferous woodland with elusive red squirrels; this ever-changing landscape also boasts the rare natterjack toad and prehistoric footprints – all waiting to be discovered.
SOUTH LANDING YORKSHIRE
Spectacular chalk cliffs and glorious rockpools are home to an array of marine wildlife; shallow chalk reefs and kelp forests are exposed on a spring tide. Waders abound year round and the cliffs come alive with breeding sea birds in the spring.
MARLOES PEMBROKESHIRE
Stunning geology, an iron age fort and dramatic coastal scenery make this one of Pembrokeshire’s finest beaches. There’s never a dull moment with excellent birdwatching, coastal wildflowers and windswept walks.
SAYE BEACH ALDERNEY, CHANNEL ISLANDS
A perfect curve of white sand nestled in between rocky headlands, Saye is just over the dunes from the island’s only campsite, where the famous blonde hedgehogs roam. An ideal spot for spotting the island’s unique wildlife, including northern gannets fishing in the clear waters.
SAND BEACH APPLECROSS, WESTER ROSS, HIGHLANDS
A remote place that feels like the edge of the world, accessed by the one of the most dramatic roads in the UK. The views here are stunning and have been enjoyed way back as far as the Mesolithic era, as the local dwelling used 9,500 years ago will testify.
