Thornton relief road set to close for up to three weeks

Section of the road will be closed from 8pm to 5am while repair work is carried out

The £20m Thornton relief road is set to close for for up to three weeks while repair work is carried out.

A Sefton Council notice reads: "Work is scheduled to commence on the evening of Monday February 1 2016, and is expected that the work will take up to 18 working nights to complete. On the evenings that directly affect Brooms Cross Road, Netherton, it will be temporarily closed each night from Monday 1st February to Thursday 19th February 2016, between its junctions with Brickwell Lane and A5036 Dunningsbridge Road, from 0800 to 05.00 hours (Sunday to Thursday nights) and from 08.00 hours to 07.00 hours (Friday and Saturday nights) or until the works are complete.

"Access will be maintained for the emergency services and where possible for residents."

The new road, which was opened last August, was expected to reduce peak hour journey times by up to seven minutes between Thornton and Switch Island, making life easier for thousands of people who commute between Sefton and Liverpool. It was also built to reduce congestion in the Thornton area.
