Woodlands pupils launch their very own road safety campaign

YOUNGSTERS at Woodlands Primary School should be safer on their way to and from school from now on thanks to a local printing firm, some very artistic pupils and a Formby councillor.

Pupils at the school put pen to paper to create their own safety awareness posters as part of a road safety scheme which was launched by Cllr Nina Killen. They designed some clear messages to urge motorists to always put safety first. The winning entries were then placed onto huge banners by CL Print Solutions on Formby Industrial Estate, to then be placed on the fences around the school. CL Print Solutions director of operations, Leonie Travers-O'Connor, said she was delighted the company could get involved in the project. She said: “As a Formby-based business we are always very keen to support our local community and our local schools. ”The children's designs were brilliant and our head of design and print Sean Gregson worked with Cllr Killen on the project to make sure the banners that we produced and the children created were exactly what the school wanted in order to get the important messages across to motorists “We are really proud to have produced these brilliant banners and to have played our part in making the roads around Woodlands safer for the pupils and the wider community.” Schools from throughout Formby have taken part in the road safety scheme. Cllr Killen said: “These new banners look really great. They are big, bright and bold. The children did a brilliant job designing them and CL Print did a great job turning the designs into these fantastic banner. ”Road safety and the hazards on roads around our schools is a big issue for pupils and their parents. Each time I visit our local schools, it is one issue that the young people themselves bring up time and time again. “I've got three young children myself, and I know only too well how difficult it can be to cross some of our roads, particularly at peak time. So these messages send a clear message to motorists to be safer when driving, particularly near schools, and to also be that bit more considerate to pedestrians. ”I would like to congratulate pupils Felicity Pendleton, Tony McBride and Lois Kelly for coming up with the winning designs and CL Print for producing these brilliant banners.“
