PUPILS at St Luke's Primary School, Formby have created their very own poppy cascade, inspired by Paul Cummins' ‘Weeping Window', as part of their remembrance commemorations. The Weeping Window, which had famously been displayed in London last year as part of the nation's tributes to the countries fallen heroes. Scarlett Wilkins of Year 6 said: “We created our poppies as a tribute to those who have fought and died while fighting for our country. ”I used lots of different materials including glitter, cardboard and tissue paper. Once we had finished, it looked wonderful.“ The cascade, which was constructed from over 300 delicately created and unique poppies, was hung in the school's hall and used as a centre piece for assemblies. Jennie Harper, Year 4 Class Teacher and Arts Co-ordinator said: ”Lots of the children had asked if they could make poppies for Remembrance Day, so we decided that they could be used to create our very own Weeping Window. “Each year, the children of Year 6 present an assembly on Remembrance Day and we thought that it would be a lovely centrepiece for our school’s commemorations. The children loved doing it and it added an extra special element to their learning too.”
