Slight rise in violence and sex crimes rise in the town over the last year

Official figures reveal a slight rise in in the number of violent and sexual offences in Formby over the last 12 months.
The monthly figures, obtained from www.police.uk, are; 26, 21, 20, 21, 18, 28, 22, 30, 21, 20, 26, 35, 29. Police declined to comment on the slight increase.

Although Formby is not normally associated with violent crime, a spate of serious incidents took place earlier this year. On May 21 Formby teenager William Cowley, 17, stabbed another teenager in an alleyway off Brow's Lane. Liverpool Crown Court heard the incident came a week after shots were fired at Cowley’s home in Gardner Road, Formby.
The court heard that the victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition having lost a large quantity of blood and needed an immediate blood transfusion. Cowley was sentenced to to five year’s detention, with an extended three years on licence.
In September there was a separate spate of stabbings.
