We can confirm that today the Formby Sports and Social Club has closed down. It has not been confirmed as to the reason why but, the Royal British Legion have a meeting tomorrow at 11am when the details will be discussed and confirmed.
The Formby Sports and Social Club signed a five year lease on the building which is owned by The Royal British Legion. Whoever leases the club has to allow TRBL to use it for their charitable and Remembrance work. The future is also uncertain for the future of this work within the club.
Formby residents have used the club for decades to socialize, to play snooker, darts, bingo, weight watchers and a whole host of charity events and social gatherings. This will be a very sad loss for the whole of Formby.
We will all have to wait until after the meeting tomorrow to find out what will become of the club.
This is the Royal British Legion on Whitehouse Lane which is now known as the Formby Sports and Social Club.
