Kids play area planned for Formby Library

There are plans to create a large outdoor children's play area at Formby library.

The plans, unveiled by Formby parish council, include a sensory garden, story telling area and garden benches.

Formby Parish council, who are behind the plans, has applied for a grant from Burbo Bank wind farm and the town's ward budget, to pay for the project. They hope to secure £25,000 from Burbo Bank's community fund, and up to £5,000 from the Ravenmeols ward budget.

The project aims to create a secure children's space on the land at the back of the library off Duke Street.

Maria Bennett, vice chair of Formby Parish council, said: "Formby library initially approached the parish council, and enquired about building a play garden for children. The space will be enclosed, so the children are safe and secure. Mums can have a coffee inside the library, while their children play outside. We hope the plans can transform the library over the summer months, and make it more of a community asset.

"If the funding is secured we hope to start work in January or February , with the play area ready for the summer."

Maria also said that the parish council had plans to refurbish Formby's war memorial garden.
